IIT Madras and IISc Launch National Supercomputing Hub for Quantum Simulation
The Department of Science and Technology has inaugurated a petascale quantum simulation and supercomputing center jointly operated by the Indian Institute of Science and IIT Madras.
The installation features indigenous liquid-cooled high-performance compute nodes optimized for molecular dynamics, material science simulations, and climate forecasting models. Research teams have initiated open-source projects on drought-resistant agricultural genomics and solid-state battery electrolytes.
Doctoral scholars and startup incubators receive subsidized compute access to train sovereign large language models across Indian official constitutional languages.
"Academic compute sovereignty enables Indian researchers to solve national challenges in materials, medicine, and climate with localized precision."
The center also offers certified telemetry courses in parallel computing architectures to expand India's cadre of high-performance software engineers.
